Lexington, Kentucky
Omni designed the Lansdowne branch with specific goals for the project: to reflect the cultural function of a library; to be inviting to the public; to offer ease and convenience of use; and to be economically constructed and maintained. The design evolved from the simple organization of functions, placing the children and adult areas on either side of the central, but acoustically separated, circulation area.
The branch was located at one end of a commercial shopping center, within in a heavily populated area of Lexington. The library proved to be a highly successful neighborhood anchor for the distribution of media materials and ultimately outgrew its existing space. Because of the confined site, expansion of the existing facility was not possible, therefore this location was closed and a new replacement branch library was constructed elsewhere in the area.
