The Division of Waste Management Facility is a utilitarian structure located the LFUCG’s Public Works complex. Working with a limited budget, the design team responded to the building program, which required maximum space through utilization of economical but durable materials and an efficient plan configuration. Masonry construction resulted in the exterior articulation and variation.
The two-story plan distinguishes the assembly spaces, meeting areas, and employee locker/dressing areas on the lower level from the second floor administration spaces. The project included truck shelters, a truck wash, and support infrastructure.
Large glass expanses were utilized in training rooms and open office areas to bring in natural daylighting and provide views to the outside for users.
The project received an AIA Kentucky Design Award for Excellence.
