Omni was challenged by Scott County Board of Education to plan and design a new elementary school for 450 students with state-of-the-art integrated technologies. A team approach, including administrators, teachers, parents, community leaders, and children worked on the design objective: to create a stimulating and friendly school environment responsive to its setting. The building budget was also quite restrictive.
By using simple but durable materials, and combining classrooms into clusters, costs were kept within budget. The main corridor permits views into an exterior courtyard. The floor plan is configured around a main street corridor. which serves as major circulation from the entrance through the length of the school. Daylight and sunshine fill all areas of the school. Special fixtures provide both direct and indirect artificial lighting.
