As a part of the new campus recreation center, NKU wanted to include an outdoor recreation field, which would include a combination intramural baseball/regulation size soccer field and an additional field for intramural soccer.

After evaluating multiple sites on the campus it was decided to resurface an existing field on the north end of campus near student housing that was currently being used for intramural sports. The recreation field includes an 800 SF support building that contains field maintenance equipment, intramural office, restrooms and storage rooms for individual departments that will utilize the fields. The existing adjacent outdoor basketball court was resurfaced and new basketball goals were installed.

The intramural fields utilize a state of the art wireless scoreboard and sound system. As a way to reduce maintenance costs for the fields, the university selected a synthetic sport field incorporating a sub-grade drainage system.
