Berea, Kentucky
Located in Letcher County in the southeastern corner of Kentucky, Lilley Cornett Woods (LCW) encompasses 554 acres of mixed mesophytic forest. A portion of the total acreage, 252 acres, is designated as “old-growth” forest; a forest which has not undergone any manmade changes in 150 years.
Omni was asked to provide preliminary designs and a cost estimate to assist the Biology faculty in applying for an NSF Grant to construct a field research station near the Lilley Cornett Woods. As part of this task, Omni helped analyze two potential sites for suitability. The NSF Grant was subsequently approved and the project will move forward with construction. The field research station will include a wet lab and a dry lab along with the required support spaces that will promote research of this unique Kentucky resource.
