Building for a Safer, Greener Campus: UK’s New EQMC Takes Shape

Construction is progressing rapidly at the new University of Kentucky Environmental Quality Management Center (EQMC) Support Services Building. Structural steel and interior CMU walls are nearing completion, with cold-formed metal framing and the slab on metal deck scheduled to begin within the next two weeks. Located on UK’s dynamic and ever-evolving campus, this facility replaces the existing EQMC on the medical campus—which is being cleared to make way for the new patient bed tower. The building will serve a critical role, processing and managing all hazardous waste generated by UK’s healthcare, academic, research, athletic, and facilities operations in compliance with environmental regulations. Today was a great day to take several Omnies to the job site to witness this phase firsthand. These complex, high-performance, and fast-tracked projects highlight Omni’s ability to blend technical precision with thoughtful architectural design, ensuring function, safety, and efficiency remain at the forefront of every solution.
